Get to Know the Opponent: OKC Energy U23

Bryan/College Station, Texas – May 7, 2018 – PDL rivals, OKC Energy U23, will look to continue to have success in both the PDL and the US Open Cup during the 2018 season. Last season, OKC Energy U23 was top of the table in the Mid-South division and only lost 1 game all season. OKC Energy U23 plays their home games at multiple sites throughout Oklahoma City, including Taft Stadium and the campus of Oklahoma City University.

For OKC Energy U23, Jon Pearlman takes over as Head Coach of the team following a successful run with FC Tuscon. In 2017, Pearlman led FC Tucson to a 9-2-3 record and a Mountain Division championship. From FC Tucson, Pearlman coached several players who went on to be taken in the MLS SuperDraft, including 5th overall pick Jon Bakero of the Chicago Fire.

In a 2018 PDL Players to Watch list, released this past week by the PDL, two OKC Energy U23 players appeared, both forwards. Their top players are expected to include Forward Nikola Fimic, from Oklahoma Wesleyan, and SMU star Garrett McLaughlin. These two players were the representatives on the Player Watch list for the PDL, the same list that included Cavalry FC Forward Brandon Guhl.
