The Cavalry FC Continue to Strengthen Roster With Latest Additions

The club welcomes another diverse group of players coming to the Brazos Valley from all over the globe to play for the Cavalry. As the Cavalry continue to put the final pieces of the roster into place, don't forget to mark the club’s home opener in your calendar, Thursday, May 26th! The home opener match against AC Houston Sur will kickoff at 7:30, We hope to see you cheering on the Brazos Valley Cavalry FC at Edible Field! 

 

Abel Gebrekiros of Gardner-Webb University will be joining the Cavalry this summer! Gebrekiros is a Minnesotan midfielder, originally born in Ethiopia, and has played at GWU for 3 seasons. In his debut season at Gardner-Webb in 2019, Gebrekiros scored 8 goals and four assists; The next season in 2020 he collected another 4 goals and 4 assists, earning the title of “Big South Offensive Player of the Week” twice. The 25-year-old started 12 games for the Runnin’ Bulldogs this season.  Gebrekiros spent time playing for Med City FC in Rochester, Minnesota in the National Premier Soccer League. We are excited to have his talent and experience on our team!

 

 

Antonio Bittencourt of Notre Dame College is joining the Cavalry charge this summer! This 22-year-old defender from São Paulo, Brazil has the skills to make an immediate impact wherever he plays, winning Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Year and MEC freshman of the year in 2020. During that season, Bittencourt led the Falcons in minutes played with 896 minutes and his defense had a conference leading 5 shutouts. The Brazilian’s success continued in 2021, scoring 4 goals as a defender and being named to the All-MEC First Team, All-Region, and All-Ohio First team. We can’t wait to see him don the black and red this summer!

 

 

We are excited to announce that Ethan Stevenson of Winthrop University will be joining the Cavalry this summer! This 20-year-old forward from Clover, South Carolina will bring lots of effort, energy, and talent to the 2022 roster. Stevenson was a consistent piece of the Eagles lineup in 2021, appearing in 18 games. The young star led his team in assists with 6, scored 5 goals, and finished the season 2nd in points with 16. Stevenson spent last summer playing at Charlotte Independence 2. The forward appeared in 10 games for the fellow USL2 club, making just as big of an impact there as he does at Winthrop. 

 

 

The Cavalry is excited to welcome back a member of the 2021 Cavalry FC roster and current junior midfielder at Wayland Baptist University from Johannesburg, South Africa, Ryan Naidoo! Naidoo has played 32 games through 2 seasons for the Pioneers, logging 3 goals and 6 assists. Naidoo was named to the All-Sac second team following the 2021 season. Prior to WBU, Naidoo played at the University of the Southwest (N.M.) his freshman year. The South Africa native has trained with some of the best soccer clubs in the world, FC Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspurs Naidoo only appeared in 3 matches for the Cavalry last summer; We hope to get him more involved in the rotation this summer! 

 

 

Lastly, the club is happy to welcome a 5’1” Costa Rican midfielder, Oscar Carballo! Carballo is a junior at John Brown University and over the past two years has been an absolute phenom for the Golden Eagles. As a freshman in 2019 Carballo scored a whopping 20 goals with 9 assists in his 22 starts. Carballo kept his on-field dominance going in his sophomore season, with the most shots (51) and goals (7) on the team. As a teenager, Carballo spent two seasons on the Costa Rican U-15 national team and played on the 2015 U-17 national team! Even as a midfielder, Carballo has the speed, touch, and field vision to be the focal point of an offensive game plan. The Cavalry hopes Oscar Carballo will be the goal-scoring machine he’s known to be!

 

 

The Brazos Valley Cavalry FC is excited to provide these players with an opportunity to continue to develop their skills and compete throughout the summer. Come to Edible Field on May 26th for the Cavalry FC home opener against AC Houston Sur at 7:30 PM CDT!
