Cavalry run riot on the roadCavalry started the match on the front foot and took the lead on 14 minutes, when Tsubasa Takada half volleyed past Gerard Roebuck from inside the penalty area after the ball fell to him from a deflected cross. The visitors double their advantage just six minutes later when Devin Boyce picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and split the defence with a glorious through-ball which Jose Sosa ran onto and lifted over the keeper Roebuck. Cavalry unfortunately conceded their first goal of the league campaign as Corpus central midfielder Arthur Rogers played a long ball forward to Stanley Smith who was in the clear and fired low under Chase Vosvick. Cavalry restored their two-goal lead just six minutes later when Kyle Edwards found Takada and he beat three players before slotting home from inside the penalty area. On the stroke of halftime, Cavalry scored their fourth and final goal of the first half when Gerard Roebuck denied Devin Boyce from close range, but he couldn’t hold onto the ball and Christian Molina fired home into an empty net. The second-half began the same way the first-half ended with Cavalry in complete control and adding to our tally in strange fashion, when fullback Andre Rivers galloped forward down the left wing before hitting a cross come shot which Roebuck tried to prevent from going into the back of the net but could only parry into the far corner. Things only got better for Cavalry on 67 minutes when Kyle Edwards got on the scoresheet, after picking the ball up wide right the striker cut onto his left foot and fired into the far corner. Cavalry weren’t done there either as they added to their tally on 84 minutes, when debutant Jacob Evans charged into the box and evaded 2 tackles before getting the ball out of his feet and slamming the into the near post. The performance was capped in added time, after Jesse Ortiz was brought down by a terrible challenge, he picked himself up and sailed a freekick over the five man wall which nestled into the top right corner of the stationary Roebuck's goal. Cavalry are next in action on Saturday 8th June 2019 where we host North Texas Legends at Travis Field. |
